DAMAGES

Simone de Beauvoir reading.

Is it just me (and it may well be) or is this TV show incomprehensible this year? Every scene seems followed by another scene that makes what went before it dissolve into huhs? The end of last year suffered from some of this obfuscation but not to this extent. I truly believe a scene from Season One could be inserted and no one would know the difference except for the weight loss of the young female lead. Does anyone know what's going on or more to the point care? I hate it when a show this good goes bad. Or maybe my concentration is fractured. (And my husband's too).

Well, this doesn’t start in the U.K until this coming Sunday, but I must say that you’re comment chimes with what I’ve been hearing about the show’s content this year.

(It may even be the curse of something like ’24’. you can only utilize a structure like last year’s, before it either collapses in on itself or, worse, simple becomes a hollow echo of the show it used to be.)

I have to admit, I did think ‘uh oh’, when I saw the amount of Hollywood types taking some kind of role this year. Always a bad period in a TV shows life, the celebrity cameo years.

All good points, Gordon. This show is so hellbent on keeping you guessing (like 24 indeed) that they forget to keep you engaged. Engagement requires a certain degree of cognizance. But again it may be me. I do tend to drift.

I felt the same way about the first few episodes this season. I think it's the relationship Ellen has with Patti. One minute she is going to spas with her and the next she screaming at her about a cell phone going off.

I think in this past week's episode it picked up a little bit. The first few episodes seemed like filler to get Patti on the case.

Okay. I'll stick with it a bit longer.

No! Don't tell me that! I didn't see "Damages" last year and we watched the first episode of season 2 and thought it looked great, so we ordered season 1 on DVD. We've only watched the first two episodes and we think it's great. I guess we'll enjoy it while we can and hope they get season 2 back on track.

Sewason One was great. Maybe my ability to focus has been compromised too. I only seem to enjoy Worst Week, The Office, Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock. I am becoming a nitwit.

I haven't watched this. It looks like they're trying to be too high falutin for me.

A little bit, Charles, I'm afraid.

Patti,

Could I be frightfully rude and point you at my blog? the latest post contains a review and a link to my appreciation of Hammett’s Red Harvest, which begins my tenure at ‘The Hub’ Magazine.

Honestly... I didn't make it past the first 3 episodes of season 1..... I just wasn't connecting with it.

pattinase (abbott) said...

I had trouble getting going too. It is hard to connect with it. Who's likable?

Interesting comments, I am a big fan of Damages. I liked season one better, but William Hurt has been fantastic.

I don't think this season is bad, just that one was better.

Of course who knows where everything will land?

William Hurt is amazing. That's why I keep watching.
