MY LIFE AT THE THEATER, SHOWBOAT

I saw SHOWBOAT in Toronto at the North York Performing Arts Centre in 1993, after which, it went on to Broadway for a successful revival at the George Gershwin Theater.

The music, the staging, the acting: incredible. Elaine Stritch, Robert Morse, Lonette McKee, Rebecca Luker, Michael Bell, an all star cast.

Thrilling. It may be my favorite theatrical experience. Anyone else catch it?

Yes, Diane and I caught SHOWBOAT at the North York Performing Arts Centre, too! Maybe we were all at the same performance! Loved "Old Man River!"

That guy brought tears to my eyes.
And she was just what you'd expect, Naomi. Brassy and fun.

Yes, we saw it. We saw two earlier productions, one in London in the early 1970's and the other at Jones Beach when they still did summer stage shows before they started the concert series.

Naomi, if you're jealous about Elaine Stritch, we've seen her many times - in COMPANY on Broadway twice and a third time when she went with it to London (where she stayed for many years), also in the 1996 revival of Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE with George Grizzard (who we met - he lived in my aunt's building) - I must admit this was not my cup of tea, and then most recently in the revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.
